Emo art

2Day's InsPiratioN
What is Emo Art and does it even exist as a genre? In the comments section I have the artist Russell (see painting above, entitled Cogs - Flies Away) tell us a little more about this genre, after he used it to classify his artwork. Unfortunately, the tag Emo has generated a backlash that has had some negative effects on the original music genre (hardcore punk and later, emotional hardcore). This genre now tends to disassociate itself from the third wave of the term's usage especially now that the media has bastardized the term by linking, more and more, to a stereotype that is biased towards an overly "emotional" sensibility. Your comments are welcome on this subject as there really is very little on the visual art side of the Emo tag, if indeed it actually exists.

The address has changed, my current art is under apothegmfoto.deviantart.com instead.

The crowd that I tend to spend my time aroundis generally considered the 'emo' crowd, at least a few years back during that it was. I was working on a short series of 'emo' art with an emphasis on hearts essentially. It started as designs for concert flyers for some local bands that are today what is considered 'emo' (an ever evolving sub-genre that has changed from it's start with bands putting lyrical emphasis over generally heavy music to todays acoustic 'emo-boy' Chris Carrabba of Dashboard Confessional). I didnt really complete the series as intended... I moved on to photography, somewhat ironically, I fell in love with concert photography. I've never been a very good artist as I see it, except for when it comes to photography. So that's where my emphasis lies now.

emo art isn't really a devinative genre it's just a way to describe sertain works, most emo art is usually sketchy, sort of like it was drawn or painted in a hurry or with little materials of even in a class or whatever. it doesn't always have to have loads of hearts and stuff but it's usually pretty deap

What about Emo Art as an expression through home decor. Like certain fabrics that i use to create wall hangings for the Emo guy or girl. As said it is not always hearts and skulls but that seems to be the stereo type of what a typical piece of Emo Art is like. What do you call Emo and what would you have on a piece of art if you were to get your hands on some.

Hello and thanks to those who have posted later comments on this older post. I will be revisting this subject again very shortly, if, indeed, it has "grown" in content and relevance. Emo is a trend, and so, like anything else that is fashionable, it probably has a finite existence.
