Yeah...I know...

ALL SOLD!

...but I just can't help myself. Tonight I made three special little ACEOs in mixed media to sell on Ebay. Each one depicts the beauty, strength and wonderment that is WOMAN. You could say I'm celebrating my existence as a female, and a creative one at that.

I have always thought that women have long been ignored for their creative strengths - particularly in the field of textile, mixed media and fibre art. Sure we may bring to the field a set of aesthetics that are emotional and feminine, but I have never been ashamed of this. Our art is as serious as any man's and we should never forget that. I know Frida has been used time and time again as a symbol of all that is right in the world of the womens' art movement; in fact, she has almost become a cliche in this respect, but what she stands for will never die.

love the ladies. and your thoughts on the subject of women in art. It is very hard to erase that "good little housekeeper" image. keep up the good work. lyle

Yeah Debs!! Nice work, love the women - the top one looks like the nude dancer in the rain again.

I don't think we should bother to keep comparing, when we do, it's like saying one sex is better. We are women, and we are amazing.

Hugs

Yeah, I agree Fadwa. We are beyond comparing - that is/was the whole point of feminism anyway. It's not about equality among the sexes, its about the choices we make - particularly the freedom to make these choices - that we should be concerned about.

PS. Lyle - can't wait for the Tragic Fashion couple to get to Sth Africa!!

Great post! And i love the women too, beautiful....
Ofcourse women art is just as good as male art, but in musea, gallery's etc.... they don't get it (yet). The guerilla girls have some great statements about it. :-)
Tnx for your nice comment at my blog.

Welcome Engel and hello again Marie! I know what you mean about Frida, which is why I can never help myself in using her in my art, lol!

Beautiful post! Frida is one of my favorite examples of women of strength!

Yes - she is such a universal figure in that sense. It is not just about the art with her.
