Ok - so one of my pledges was to buy 2nd hand this year or to barter where possible.  So, in honour of this resolution, I've set up a new blog called The Barter Circle (see link above).  I'm going to use this new blog of mine to list items I'm willing to barter for (with an accompanying list of items I have to offer of course!).  If you want to start your own circle - go for it!!!  You can grab this amazing badge that my friend Pania made for me...and guess what? I bartered for it!

I've started a pass it on book thingy. I love your idea.
We have a free market in a local cafe every now and again, it's so cool. the catch is there isn't one, you can either donate an item and take an item, or just take what you like.
I was very good, even though I didn't make a resolution about exercising more, I joined the local Ymca, wheeeeeeeeee!

I think it is a great idea! trading for the things we need and or can no longer use is awesome!
loves it!
thanks for your comments too, and it is a good thing children grow up! they call it an empty nest...
like that's a bad thing??? LOL!
the good thing with dogs is they never learn to say NO and I wont have to send them to UNI! xo

I don't need things so much anymore. I just have to replace what is worn out or used up. And books...books. I am going to be very interested in how this works for you. We could all take a big step back in our consumption. My biggest changes have been to be very faithful about using cloth bags for shopping, and to go vegan. I am sure I could improve in more ways, and be gracious to Mother Earth.

i found your new blog before i noticed this post. already signed up and good to go... other than the fact that i ought to post some things i have up for grabs and tradable too. perhaps i'll make a new tab on my blog or a page on my site. i shall think about this. i have a shit-ton of stuff and i do know that i could literally go 3 years without buying most things (i even have a HUGE box of paints and papers, etc. from mister art that i haven't even opened and it arrived before the solstice).

Oh this is great! I'm glad so many of you are interested already! Well, time will tell how well this takes off. I love the idea of a free market, Corrine - that is so cool!! I think I'll start something here!

I began my art life with nothing but used, found, or dumpster dived (is that a word?) items. I now buy paint and gesso and get my glue from UHU. In many circles, I am known as the "Queen of Free." I did buy 2 yards of material and a package of cheesecloth last year, as well as paint, gesso, and glass nippers. I won't skimp on tools, because I won't buy paper, magazines, or books. If I can't find things in a dumpster, I probably won't use it. I've even been known to take two fancy napkins when they are around: one to use and one to take home for art. I often trade rubber stamps, although I don't do much stamping, with my art friend, Dana. If, between the two of us, we don't have it, we probably don't need it!

It's pretty obvious I don't have much of anything anyone would want. But I look forward to seeing how you save this year and will closely follow your new blog.
